Ben’s love of martial arts and fighting started at a young age. Inspired by television, movies, comics and videogames, he began training hoping to one day become a Ninja Turtle. While he hasn’t fully been able to make that happen yet, he HAS dabbled in almost every style of Martial Art he could find, including Karate, Taekwondo, Boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Chinese Kung-Fu and Muay Thai. Primarily his focus though has been in striking arts, being a State and National level competitor and champion in Taekwondo in his teens, and then moving to Muay Thai and training under Carl Draper at Hangar 4 MMA. During this time he added a dozen Muay Thai fights to his record and even claimed a WMC Victorian Light Heavyweight title! Apart from Martial Arts, Ben is also an active competitor in strength sports – mainly Strongman competitions. Over the last few years he has competed in over 20 competitions, in both the under 90kg and under 105kg categories, securing a podium placing in every comp (and more than his share of 1st place finishes as well!) As well as practical experience, Ben holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physical Education), and a Graduate Diploma in Education. He believes that strength-training plays an important role in helping an athlete reach their potential. But possibly the most important information of all, Ben likes his music loud and his weights heavy!
