Ben’s love of martial arts and fighting started at a young age. Inspired by television, movies, comics and videogames, he began training in Karate and Taekwondo, hoping to one day become a Ninja Turtle. While the initial dream never truly faded, it was eventually superseded with a genuine love of martial arts, the training involved, and competition.

Along the way to being awarded his black belt in Taekwondo in his teens, Ben acted as both competitor and coach at State and national level competitions, winning several Victorian Taekwondo championships and a National championship. In 2007, looking for something new and challenging, Ben started training in Muay Thai at a local gym. A couple of years later, looking to improve his skills, he found himself at Hangar 4 MMA, which he’s called “home” ever since. During his time at Hangar 4 training, coaching and competing, Ben has added a dozen fights to his record, and even claimed a WMC Victorian Light Heavyweight title!

In 2015, Ben decided to try his hand at Strongman competitions. Competing in 8 competitions within 2 years, in both the under 90kg and under 105kg class, Ben secured podium finishes in every competition, with a handful of 1st place wins.

2nd place - 2016 Victoria’s Strongest Man U105kg (Arnold’s Qualifier)


As well as practical experience, Ben holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physical Education), a Graduate Diploma in Education and is a Strength and Conditioning coach at Hangar 4. Ben believes that strength-training plays an important role in helping an athlete reach their potential. But possibly the most important information of all, Ben likes his music loud and his weights heavy!
